Following construction supervision of the expansion works of the Nueva Palmira port terminal, carried out during 2016 and 2017, Corporación Navíos once again relies on TYPSA to carry out the supervision of the works of a new phase of the expansion. On this occasion, a new liquid terminal is being built and the expansion of the current mineral handling and storage facilities.
The liquid bulk terminal includes a tank park that, in its first stage, offers 37,000 m³ of static storage capacity, consisting of two 15,000 m³ tanks and one 7,000 m³ tank. The tanks are designed for the management of products such as biofuels and vegetable oils exported from Uruguay and the South American Waterway region. This new infrastructure also includes a new dock for tankers, tank park connections to docks and other auxiliary facilities.
The expansion of the mineral terminal includes the construction of a new mineral collection yard, with a capacity of 400,000 tons, in addition to the 700,000 tons already enabled in the works inaugurated in 2017. To this end, a second reclaimer stacker will be installed, with the corresponding conveyor belt system, and the necessary electrical power supply, control, water collection, etc.
This facility, twin to the previous one, will be supplied by the factory mid-2024 and is expected to start operating early 2025. At present, the works are progressing at a good pace for the foundations and water tanks necessary for the operation.
In these extension works, TYPSA supports the Navíos project management team, the control and monitoring of the works and the coordination of the different contractors. The presence of five main contractors, often sharing the same space, represents the main challenge of works in which the operation of the terminal, which is at full capacity, must be respected.
