MC2 Engineering Studio, a subsidiary of the TYPSA group specialising in unique structures, was commissioned by Foster+Partners and LM Uriarte Arkitektura to carry out the detailed design and support services for the expansion and renovation of the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum. The project involves installing a new structure over the museum courtyard and one of the wings of the existing building, resulting in a raised building of 3,500 m² surrounded by the older ones, and which will be used for temporary exhibitions.
On January 19th, the assembling of the first V-shaped supporting pillar of the new bridge-like extension of the museum took place. Guillermo Blanco and Alvaro Serrano from MC2, together with teams from Foster+Partners, LMU Arkitektura, TekArk Studio, KREAN, and museum management, were present. The manoeuvre, led by the joint venture in charge of the extension (Urbelan, Altuna and Uria, Campezo and Teusa) and the steel workshop Inbersa, was a success.
Various authorities and media outlets were able to witness this manoeuvre, which is one of the great milestones in the execution of this unique project, with important repercussions in both local and national press. Congratulations to all the teams involved in this fascinating design and construction process!
