Key facts

422 m long incrementally launched bridge, in the connection between the Benavides Avenue and the Pan-American Highway in Lima. The bridge provides access to the north bound direction in the Pan-American Highway coming from the west, providing a link between two of the main road corridors in Lima.

To enable construction on the Pan-American Highway, over a five lane per direction section subject to such heavy traffic, a steel deck bridge solution was proposed. The steel deck bridge is launched over a length of 190m. The launching is carried out from the north end with a 20 m steel truss nose, spanning across the two highway carriageways with 55 and 60 m spans.

The problem of high seismicity in Lima has been addressed with the criterion of reducing stresses by allowing movement for frequent earthquakes scenarios, while for extreme earthquakes scenarios, the impact of the deck on the substructure is allowed and the ductility of the piers is taken into account.
