The Polytechnic University of Cartagena has been in charge of organising the VII Water Engineering Conference which biannually brings together professionals from the sector, with the presence of both Spanish and foreign representatives from universities, public administrations, and the business world. These conferences, of scientific and technical nature, have been held since 2009 and the TYPSA Group has had a very active participation in them since its beginning, being on this occasion sponsor of the event.
In this edition, the focus has been on hydraulic infrastructures’ resilience to climate change. Water engineering presents adaptation options as a solution to the threats of resource scarcity, water pollution and high risk of flooding, which are being increased by global warming.
Within the participation of the Group’s companies at the conference, Sara Perales, CEO of Green Blue Management, gave a course on Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SUDS) and a presentation on “Strategy for the implementation of SDS at a local scale using multi-criteria GIS analysis. Case study: Granollers (Barcelona)”. She also presented a panel on the “Construction project for a sustainable urban drainage chain in Los Belones, Cartagena”.
Cristina Puertes, from the Department of Water Engineering of Valencia presented her “Analysis of actions in the agricultural area of the South Sea Menor basins with the objective of improving the ecological status of the lagoon”. Amparo Sanchis, from the same department, presented the “Two-dimensional hydraulic modelling at a regional scale for decision-making in highly flooded Mediterranean areas” and presented a panel on “Self-protection measures against flood risk in urban facilities in high flood risk areas”.
Finally, Juan Ojeda, director of the Department of Water Engineering, gave a keynote speech on “Characterisation of sedimentological processes in reservoirs. Evolution and expectations for the optimisation of operating strategies”, which served to close the event.
The TYPSA Group is committed, through its presence at these conferences, to the improvement of knowledge and the development of cutting-edge techniques for the analysis and solution of the challenges presented by water engineering.
